Wordful Wednesday - Hand Fed

Here are Jacob and Rick hand feeding our chickens! They have become so friendly that the boys can pet them.

The other day a lady came to the house to pick up something I had advertised on Freecycle and when she stepped out of her car all the chickens came running over ... she looked panicked, I told they were friendly, just looking for treats!

I frequently open the door to go out and they will be on the porch waiting for bread!!

The kids really enjoy them, and I too enjoy having them around. We are now getting an average of six eggs per day in a variety of sizes and colors (tan, dark brown, pink, blue, green, and speckled). It is much like Easter each day as only a couple lay in the coop, a couple lay in various places in the shed and someone is now laying in the bushes behind the house!

To read our funny chicken story go here!

A magical day to you!

Farm life huh? I have never been that close to chickens. Your kiddos seem very comfortable around them. Happy WW!

Can't wait to have our own chickens!

How funny when people freak out about such small animals, lol.

That's pretty neat, although I must admit chickens do scare me a bit.

Adorable photo. Soon the kids are going to ask to bring those friendly chickens into the house.

My uncle apparently had a pet rooster when he was a child.

I love it!! I think the chickens are awesome and how much fun is it to have all those different colored eggs!! I wish we could have chickens at our home. Or goats. A goat would be cool too.

I probably would have been alarmed myself. I'm glad they're friendly.

Your chickens are very funny. My daughter in Australia has also chickens and very funny ducks. Every morning when they are released they march in single file behind their leader, a white drake. When he stops the whole queue stops. He turns round and addresses them with a speech. After that they disperse and go to their own places to lay eggs.
Thanks for your visit.

Those are certainly some very amiable chickens!

I didn't know you had chickens. I love mine! I have Americanas and they lay pretty blue, green, pink, and tan eggs.

As a sad April Fool's "joke", my favorite was dead this morning. She'd been sick but responsive, and I thought she'd pull through. :(

One thing I love about them is that they charge at you (well, only me around here, because I'm the main feeder), looking like football players with their arms pasted to their sides. No matter where I walk, I have my hungry little papparazzi following. So silly!

Lucian and Elijah LOVE to feed the chickens, and I'm so glad they get that closeness with their food.

That is something else. I bet they had fun feeding their feathered friends.

I am so freaked out by chickens, ducks and geese! I wish someone had introduced them to me in a safe environment! I love seeing kids enjoying simple things like feeding chickens - no video games!!

I'm a city girl w/ a family that lives in Dominican Republic .. my Grandmother has chickens out there and the last time I was there I remember having to let them pass before I could continue up to the house ... they're treated and they act like they're part of the family LOL ...

Wow chickens who are nice. Have a great day. I am doing a Round Robin on Friday April 10. If you want to stop by that would be great. All you have to do is post something fun on your blog. I will have details up later on this afternoon.
